State Rep. Jay DeBoyer, of Clay Township, was named to the House Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security Committee this week as committee assignments were announced for the 2023-24 legislative term.

The committee is responsible for deliberating on various policy issues that relate to homeland security, as well as the state’s veterans and military members.

“I am honored to be named to this committee,” DeBoyer said. “The brave men and women of our military put their lives on the line to defend our families and protect our freedoms. It’s important we have their backs in the state Legislature, and I will stay true to that principle.”

Before coming to the Legislature, DeBoyer spent the last 11 years as a clerk and register of deeds for St. Clair County. Despite this experience, DeBoyer was not included on the House Elections Committee.

“My top priority as a clerk was making sure Michigan’s elections ran efficiently and effectively,” DeBoyer said. “I have real-world experience as the chief elections official within a county, and I was hoping to use that experience to ensure our state’s elections system is safe and effective.

“Taxpayers get a good product from their state government when an overwhelming amount of practical experience is on-hand to review legislation and set a course for our state’s future. I believe I could have been a real asset to the House Elections Committee, and I am hopeful I am considered for it down the line.”

DeBoyer, who is in his first term representing northern Macomb County and portions of southern St. Clair County, recently announced his House office in Lansing is open to help serve people in the 63rd House District. People can contact his office by calling (517) 373-1787 or emailing JayDeBoyer@house.mi.gov.
