I voted NO on HB 4390&91 (Reps. BeGole, Rogers) would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to allow suspension of a license for refusing a test of other bodily fluids. Would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to allow testing of other bodily fluids. EXPLANATION: The expansion of impairment testing puts another tool in government’s toolbox to penalize people. A driver impaired by a mixture of substances, or a substance that is not alcohol, can already be punished for impaired driving by way of a blood or urine test. Government does not need more biometric means of tracking and punishing people using an unreliable and invasive test.

I voted NO on HB 4369 (Rep. Paquette) would prohibit schools from providing foods with certain ingredients to students. EXPLANATION: It is one thing to attach regulations to taxpayer-funded schools, but a blanket, one-size-fits-all mandate affects private education as well. Mandates must be met with scrutiny, and dictating to families who already spend their own time and money on their child’s education is an improper role of government, a regulation of the private sector, and a government solution to a government-made problem whereby government is improperly in the business of determining what is and is not healthy.
