Rep. Hall welcomes state champion athletes from Otsego, Plainwell to Capitol
State Rep. Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, on Tuesday hosted two repeat state champion athletes at the Michigan State Capitol and presented them with state tributes to honor their achievements.

Smith, a sophomore at Otsego High School, won the 100m butterfly state title in the 2022-2023 season, followed by state titles in the 100m butterfly and the 200m individual medley in the 2023-2024 season.Rep. Niewenhuis, a sophomore at Plainwell High School, achieved a tremendous comeback in the 2022-2023 season, winning the state title in her weight class after missing a month of the season due to a broken foot. She won the title again in the 2023-2024 season, and she was named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week in January.
