Rep. Joe Bellino introduces bill to ban the sale of nitrous oxide paraphernalia
RELEASE|February 1, 2022

Rep. Joe Bellino has introduced a bill to ban the sale of nitrous oxide paraphernalia throughout the state.

House Bill 5692 specifically expands the definition of “drug paraphernalia” in the Public Health Code to include objects designed for the ingestion of nitrous oxide, otherwise known as “whip-its”.

“As a drug addict in recovery, I’ve seen the damage those little canisters can do to a person,” said Bellino, of Monroe. “This common-sense legislation will help save lives.”

Sen. Stephanie Chang, D-Detroit, introduced accompanying legislation, Senate Bill 855, in the Senate this week.

HB 5692 has been referred to the House Committee on Judiciary, while SB 855 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Health Policy, each for further consideration.
