State Rep. Phil Green has been appointed to the House Appropriations Committee for the 2025-26 legislative term and will serve on several subcommittees that oversee state spending and budgets for key government departments.
Green will Chair the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Health and serve as Vice Chair on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Medicaid and Behavioral Health. He will also serve on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources and the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Joint Capital Outlay.
The House Appropriations Committee manages the annual state budget and supplemental state spending. The committee also reviews legislation that impacts budget implementation and public policies with significant financial implications.
“Our communities will have a critical voice on issues that matter to them and as state spending is debated,” said Green. “People want to know state government is prioritizing safe and healthy communities with the policies they pursue. They want access to quality care and mental health resources, and they want to make sure state departments are using taxpayer dollars responsibly and efficiently to deliver critical services and improve the places we call home.
“I am looking forward to ensuring our food supply is both secure and affordable, and I am ready to amplify these voices and priorities on these committees as we go through the term.”
Green will bring extensive experience to the House Appropriations Committee, having served on it in two of his three previous terms.
Green recently began his fourth term in the Michigan House and currently serves the 67th House District, which covers portions of Genesee, Lapeer and Tuscola counties.
